The bottom half is entirely carved from one piece of wood, no joints, with two pairs of lovely carved notches along the edges of the rail on the top, into which the sliding lid fits perfectly, nice and tight. The patina on this one a beautiful thing, warm and radiant, with edges and old scratches softened and smoothed from wear. 6" l x 2 1
