Unlike canariensis, this species is not classified as a pest, and it is not banned anywhere in New Zealand, as it doesnt spread aggressively in the wild and hasnt shown invasive behaviour like canariensis. Phoenix rupicola has a really graceful look, with softer arching fronds and a slimmer, cleaner trunk that doesnt bulk out into a huge
