This is a traditional Sudanese "KASKARA" broadsword constructed around 1880 in the style of the 13th Century European crusader's swords used in Jerusalem by the Christian knights fighting Saladin. Upon expulsion these captured European edged weapons were spread all over the Middle East and it was in the very North East part of Africa, the Sudan region, that this form of broadsword was seriously adopted. The
