Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension, the obverse with a raised leftward facing profile of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of FR RETTUNG VON MENSCHEN LEBEN (FOR RESCUE OF HUMAN LIFE), within a laurel and oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 33. 06 mm in
