Dieudonn Vital was born on September 28, 1924, in Jacmel, Haiti, and was the brother of renowned painter Pauleus Vital. Before turning to art, Vital served in the Haitian army beginning in 1945. It was his son, painter Maurice Vital, who introduced him to painting,
